This is a section of Lake Victoria along Paga Beach in Kisumu County.
This picture details Lake Victoria’s high potential as a tourist destination in Kenya. Although the Western side of Kenya has many scenic sites, most tourists still prefer the coast. This is largely due to the minimal exposure of the Western side. Paga Beach is as tranquil as Diani or Watamu, and Lake Victoria’s ‘untapped’ beauty is something to behold!
Besides its potential as a tourist site, Lake Victoria is home to many aquatic animals, specifically the following types of fish: Nile perch, Tilapia, Daggaa, locally known as Omena, Catfish, Killfish, Cichlid fish, and Marbled lungfish. However, the Nile Perch and Tilapia are the main types caught at this lake. Lake Victoria majorly anchors the fishing sector in Kenya. The lake accounts for 60 percent of the country’s fish production. This has, in turn, created jobs along the lake region and bolstered Kenya’s fish export. Lake Victoria, otherwise locally referred to as Nam Lolwe, is thus a beauty with a purpose, and tourists are missing out on a lot.
Imagine yourself sitting by the shores of the lake, eating a pan-fried fresh Nile Perch with fresh salad and Ugali on the side as you plane spot, and wait for the sun to set! All this while, the fresh breeze from the lake hits you as you marvel at the building calmness of Lake Victoria, and if you are lucky enough, you might spot a hippo from a distance.
